Kavita graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) Marketing degree from the University of Northampton. Here is what she has to say about her time as a student.
“I looked at a range of different universities to study Marketing but in the end it was the employability statistics that really drew me to Northampton. The fact that this university has a huge focus on getting you job after you graduate assured me Northampton was the right choice.
One of my favourite things about my course was getting to go on a study trip to New York! I have always wanted to go there as it is such an iconic city and so when the university gave us the option to go – it was an opportunity I could not turn down. We got to see big global businesses and agencies that really inspired me to want to reach my own business career goals.
The University encouraged me to do a placement year at Rolton Group as a Marketing Assistant. I was there for a full year and got paid whilst I was there which was another bonus. It was a fantastic insight into the world of work and encouraged me to think about my future after the course. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who gets the chance as you learn so much about the industry you want to work in.
One of my favourite things about the University of Northampton is the social side. You meet people who become lifetime friends and that is all down to the SU and societies that are a huge part of student culture here. It has a real campus based feel, everyone is very much together and not spread out which I love. I am a member of the Hindu Society, one of the largest across the whole of the UK. We regularly meet for events and activities including; Holi festivals and Diwali balls and it has been a great way to meet lifelong friends.
In Northampton you can get the true English experience as it is a town with lots of traditional villages and countryside but also on the other end of the scale they have so many shops, bars and modern facilities to also enjoy. I think Northampton has something for every student. Northampton is a fantastic place to live as a young person as it is very accessible. I have always felt very safe and happy here.
Making friends at the University of Northampton was easy. You get to meet a diverse range of people and everyone is really friendly – even in lectures! Fresher’s week was amazing fun and we got involved in tons of activities that made it easy to meet people.
Next year I am going to be studying my MBA. I wasn’t sure if it was something I should definitely do but after speaking with the lecturer- who was so enthusiastic, I knew I wanted to do it! I think it will really improve my employability prospects and teach me skills needed for the world of work that will be invaluable for my future.”
